Egypt frozen meat import requirements for Indian exporters

Egypt is one of the largest importers of Indian buffalo and poultry in Africa. The General Organization for Veterinary Services (GOVS) is responsible for approving overseas meat establishments for Egypt. Indian plants must be on the GOVS approved list. The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) handles import registration.

Halal certification for Egypt must come from a body approved by Al-Azhar, the Egyptian religious authority. This is separate from GCC Halal requirements and the list differs. Exporters using a GCC-recognised Halal body should verify that the same body is also accepted by Al-Azhar before assuming Egypt compliance.

Egyptian port inspection at Alexandria and Port Said is detailed. Microbiological testing, temperature verification at core, and label-to-document matching are routine. A rejected lot in Egypt is expensive — the market is large enough to be worth getting right from the first consignment.
