Halal certification requirements for Indian meat exports

Which Halal bodies GCC and Southeast Asian importers actually accept — and what the certificate must contain.

compliance — Crestline Exports export insight cover

Halal certification for Indian meat exports is issued by accredited Islamic bodies recognised by the destination authority. For the UAE the relevant list is maintained by MOIAT. Saudi Arabia requires SASO-accepted bodies. Malaysia's JAKIM maintains its own approved list, which differs from GCC lists.

The certificate must state the slaughterhouse name, registration number, species, lot and container numbers, slaughter date, and the name of the Halal body issuing it. A generic 'Halal certificate' without lot traceability will not clear most modern GCC inspection systems.

APEDA-registered plants in India are the starting point. The Halal body audits the plant separately — APEDA registration alone does not confer Halal status. Buyers should confirm the certifying body before production, not after the container is sealed.

We match each shipment to the Halal body already in use at the importer's port. If you have not yet selected a certifier, we can advise on bodies with established track records for Abu Dhabi and Dubai clearance.
