Meat export documentation from India: a complete list

Health certificate, Halal certificate, APEDA registration, invoice, packing list, and what each document must contain.

compliance — Crestline Exports export insight cover

A complete meat export document set from India contains: (1) Health and veterinary certificate, issued by the competent authority (FSSAI or state veterinary department). (2) Halal slaughter certificate from the certifying body, with lot and container reference. (3) Certificate of origin, issued by the Export Inspection Council or a chamber of commerce. (4) APEDA registration certificate of the plant. (5) Commercial invoice with full description, HS code, quantity, unit price and total value. (6) Packing list matching the invoice exactly. (7) Bill of lading or air waybill.

Additional documents may be required by the destination. UAE ZAD registration number may need to appear on the label. Saudi SFDA may request a specific template for the health certificate. Malaysia may require DVS import permit reference. Always confirm with the importer of record before production.

Common errors that delay clearance: discrepancy between product description on the health certificate and on the invoice; Halal certificate that does not list the container number; packing list weight that differs from the invoice by even a small amount; origin certificate that names a different plant than the health certificate.

We prepare and review all document sets before the lot ships. Buyers are provided copies by email 24–48 hours before vessel departure so they can begin import pre-clearance at their end.
